How to recruit your next team member for life! Our personal recruitment process

You’re in for a treat today!

We’re often asked the secret to our recruitment process that helped us to build such a strong team culture at Open Space and supported us to grow our business quickly.

We believe that you set the scene for your success through your recruitment process.

Which is why in today’s episode we’re sharing our personal recruitment process so you can recruit your own dream team members for life.

So buckle up, get out your notepad (you’re going to need it) and let’s do this!

Things You’ll Learn in This Episode of Hustle With Heart:

  • Our personal recruitment process that helped us to build a strong team culture and grow our business quickly

  • WHY a clear recruitment process is so vital for your business success

  • How to figure out who you need to hire

  • How to manifest and attract them

Step 1: Get clear on what you want

The key question to ask here is - What are the holes in your business that you need to fill?

When you’re recruiting you need to know:

  • What you want (your non-negotiables)

  • What you don’t want

So you can hire the RIGHT person.

We even go through:

  • What type of archetype

  • What is their Human Design

  • What are their values

A mistake we often see if people try to hire someone similar to themselves. But you want to hire someone who has different strengths than you.

Step 2: Attracting the right person

You know the holes you’re attempting to fill in your business are and you know exactly the type of person you’re looking for…

So how do you attract them?

We love using video for applications!

We get so much more from video than we do from your standard written application.

And not just for the applicant - we also use video as part of our ads for recruitment.

It’s important to be clear on what you do and don’t want so you get the right pool of applicants - which saves your time and energy when it comes to selecting your chosen person for the role.

You need to think about where your ideal person hangs out so you can be sure to advertise the role there.

Make sure you’re clear with how they need to submit their application (with video, cover letter, resume etc).

Step 3: Monitor & delegate candidates

We’re ruthless with this process.

The strength of our business = the strength of our weakest team member.

If an applicant doesn’t meet the application and selection criteria, their application is discarded.

This means from 300 applications, we’re only looking at 8.

If someone has jumped through all the hoops you’ve asked them to - you know they really want to work with you.

Which is important because you only want people in your business who love it and want to be part of it.

Step 4: Weed out the candidates

This is where you begin to interview your candidates.

We start with a 15 minute phone interview to see if we want to progress them to the next phase of recruitment.

During the phone interview we’re asking specific questions to gauge how they communicate and why they’re interested in our business. We want to see candidates who’ve done their research and really want to work with us.

If we’re satisfied with their phone interview we move onto an emotional intelligence questionnaire. We want to make sure all of our team members are emotionally intelligent and get an 80% mark in this test.

From there we move onto the next phase which is face to face panel interviews.

We have a mixed panel and use pattern interrupting questions to break up the standard interview questions. This gives us an insight into their true personality.

At the end of the interview we also get them to complete some basic questionnaires to test their growth mindset and positive mindset. We can teach most skills, but in order for them to learn the skills they have to have a growth mindset.

This is one of the biggest decisions you can make for your business - your team and the people in it are crucial to your success.

So even if this seems excessive to you - we know that it’s very important to make sure you recruit the right people to help you achieve this success.

You set the scene for your success through your recruitment process.

And remember it’s ok to be slow to hire - take your time with your decision.

And there you have it!

And there you have it - how to recruit your next team member for life.
