The art of batching your work for ultimate freedom

The phrase work smarter not harder aptly describes the most magical productivity hack we’ve ever come across...

BATCHING.

It has genuinely taken our work from being a frenzied last minute, adrenaline driven ‘chore’ to a productive, easeful and SUPERCHARGED needle mover that has skyrocketed our business success.

You know those people who seem to be able to produce MASSIVE amounts of content consistently ALL WHILST successfully running their business, having lunch dates and conducting interviews…

It’s likely that they sit in either of these two camps.

EITHER from the outside they look all cool calm and collected but they’re actually losing hair and having a minor mental and emotional breakdown every evening

OR they’ve mastered the art of BATCHING, which has then freed up a boundless amount of time for them to lean into other adventures in their business.

Things You’ll Learn in This Episode of Hustle With Heart:

  • What batch work is and WHY it’s so important

  • How we’ve used batching to create more free time in our life

  • How to batch your work successfully

  • Our TOP BATCH TASKS that we recommend to escalate your productivity

What is batching?

Batching work is when you focus on ONE topic or task at a time instead of jumping from task to task.

For example: This podcast is released every week. Now we could sit down at the same time every week and record as we go OR we could record MULTIPLE episodes at a time.

I bet you can pick which option one we choose.

In fact this episode was actually recorded in late August. Every Monday for the past 5 weeks Andy and I have recorded 3 -4 episodes at a time. We batch our episodes so that we can have MONTHS off for other tasks such as raising a baby (Andy) and working on our tan (Jacinta) over Summer.

Why is batching important?

Swapping from task to task takes energy and time, by focusing on one task at a time you instead save yourself time and energy

Batching allows you to lean into your creative flow and makes for more inspired action and therefore better results

And it helps you to stay in ONE creative zone (writing zone, planning zone, admin etc), which means you feel ON TOP of things, not like you are chasing your tail. And this leaves MORE SPACE for inspiration to drop in.

Batching also makes planning easy.

How to batch your work successfully

  1. Mind Dump - write down everything you do and then break down everything into projects

  2. Highlight the things that can be batched

  3. Allocate batch frequency

  4. Organise calendar
