Our personal take on morning routines

We don’t subscribe to the notion of a fixed morning routine. We believe that having a strict morning routine is really rigid and outdated.

However we do believe that it’s best to create some space for you in your mornings, especially when you first wake up - to connect with yourself.

It’s important to understand that a morning routine is going to be different for everyone.

Make your morning routine unique to YOU

Make your morning routine unique to you, it’s important to connect with your body and do what feels best for you on the day.

So feeling into and asking yourself some questions like:

  • What do I really need right now?

  • What is my body wanting?

  • What am I feeling like?

And then you can create a morning routine that’ll set you up for success each day.

Your morning routine WILL change

Your morning routine will change through the seasons of your life…

When you’re pregnant…

When you have young kids…

The key point here is that throughout your life, you're going to have different seasons. You need to be open and flexible and to honour those rhythms and their seasons…

And most importantly to allow it to be flexible without judgement.

Our current morning routines

Andy: Get up at about 6am and then tongue scraping.

I've been Oil Pulling while I journal (stream of consciousness writing or writing down dreams).

And then I go to my 7am Pilates class.

Jacinta: I’m a bit of a rebel and do the things I recommend people DON’T do - like waking up with a bit of a scroll on my phone (this is a habit I want to break).

But in general, in the morning I like to do some form of physical activity (Pilates, a walk, or some stretch) and drink a shit tonne of water to hydrate my body.

Another ritual that I really love is oil pulling which is really great to help detox your body and also clean your teeth first thing in the morning.


Our favourite hacks for optimal performance

As integrative chiropractors, we can’t talk about a morning routine without mentioning some of our favourite physical hacks for optimal performance.

You can set your body and mind up for success by adding in some powerful physical hacks into your morning routine.

  1. Oil Pulling

  2. Drinking 1L of water - add in some fresh lemon to help your liver and kick off that detoxification process

  3. Cold showers to flush the blood from your organs to your skin

  4. Breathwork

  5. Meditation

What NOT to do

Some of the things you probably shouldn’t be doing as part of your morning routine…

  1. Using your phone as soon as you wake up

  2. Watching TV or the news

  3. Break up with your snooze button
